This module develops an understanding of the conduction process in metals and in intrinsic and doped semiconductors. It describes and analyses the behaviour of the semiconductor junction and the operation of the junction diode from a physical electronics view point. The module then goes on to describe and analyse the behaviour of bipolar and field effect transistors. Practical devices and circuits and device ratings and characteristics are also discussed. The module is of relevance to all those involved in the semiconductor industry and especially to those involved in the manufacture and testing of semiconductor devices.
