Detailed study of selected manufacturing processes is combined with experience in lab-based practical sessions. Important aspects of engineering manufacture such as quality, reliability, sustainability, lean manufacturing and the extensive use of computers in many areas,is explored. The suitability of manufacturing processes for applications is explored using a framework which recognises the interrelationships of (manufacturing) process, (artefact) function, shape, and materials.

Lectures introduce you to the technologies and underlying principles of a broad range of manufacturing processes. You undertake a number of lab-based practical sessions to provide an appreciation of manufacturing processes.
