HNC you must complete a minimum of 125 credits including the core modules with a maximum of 50 credits at level 5.

Description

The aim of this module is to provide the fundamental analytical knowledge and techniques needed to successfully complete the core modules of Higher National Engineering programmes.

It is also intended as a base for the further study of analytical methods and mathematics, needed for the more advanced option modules. This module has been designed to enable students to use fundamental algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics and probability, for the analysis, modelling and solution of realistic engineering problems at Higher National level.

Description

This module presents the opportunity for students to use the knowledge and skills they have developed at work and in their programme of studies, in the definition, management and completion of a work-related project, including the presentation of their findings to an appropriate audience. The module thereby aims to integrate the skills and knowledge developed in other modules of the course within a major piece of work that reflects the type of performance expected of a higher technician at work.The student is advised to study this module until last and is advised to use a ‘real’ project based on their own workplace where this is possible.

  • Element 1 comprises a logbook or project diary documenting the progress of the project
  • Element 2 comprises a project report of approximately 3000 words
